What is Infrared Heat?
- Infrared heat is a band of light that is perceived as heat. While no-one can see infrared heat, we can feel its effects. Infrared radiation, or radiant heat, represents over half of the energy emitted by the Sun and is divided into three segments: near, middle, and far. Infrared rays warm our body by a process called conversion.
- Through conversion, far infrared light can penetrate organic substances such as the human body without heating the air in between. You may notice a similar effect on partly cloudy days: when a cloud obscures the sun, you suddenly feel cooler, but the air temperature around you has not had time to be affected. The cloud blocked the sun's infrared rays from penetrating your body.
- By using far infrared heat as opposed to traditional methods, you enable the heat to penetrate deeper into your body without the skin discomfort of heat pads, hot towels, and some pain relief gels/creams. However, less discomfort is just one of many benefits of far infrared heat therapy.
- Our Infrared lamps are designed for use in hospitals, clinics and medical practices requiring Infrared heat and/or light therapy for their patients. Professional models are perfect for the medical professional or the beauty/body therapist.
- There are two types of infrared lamps used in body therapy: true infrared with radiant heat without light or non-luminous lamps , and radiant heat with light or luminous types.
- Medical Infrared Heat Lamps maintain or restore thermal environment and provide increased illumination for procedures when needed.
Is Far Infrared Light Safe?
- Far Infrared energy is a part of the natural light spectrum of sunlight minus the skin damaging UV; the part that is invisible to the human eye.
- Different types of light interact with our body differently. In general, the shorter the wavelength of a light, the more harmful it is to living cells. Light, like ultraviolet, is very harmful to living cells. The most beneficial lights are those whose wavelengths are near the red light. Far Infrared Therapy or FIR therapy uses far infrared light which is part of the Sun light spectrum whose wavelength falls just below (infra means below) the visible red light.
- The complete spectrum of sunlight consists of visible and invisible rays. The visible rays are red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, blue, and violet in color. The invisible rays are Ultra Violet, X-rays, Gamma, Cosmic, Microwave, Long Wave, Electrical Wave and Infrared.
- Electromagnetic waves between visible light and the microwave are called infrared waves. The wavelength of infrared waves range from 0.76 micron to 1,000 microns; this range is further subdivided into the ranges of Near, Medium, and Far Infrared Rays with following wavelength: 0.76 to 1.5microns; 1.5 to 4 microns; and 4 to 1,000 microns respectively.
- Far Infrared Rays are thermal.
Infrared & Heat
- Heat increases the flow of blood by dilating the blood vessels of the muscles improving flexibility in connective tissue and muscles. It can temporarily decrease stiffness within the joints, reduce pain, and relieves muscle spasms.
- Heat also helps reduce inflammation and the buildup of fluid in tissues (edema). Heat therapy is used to treat inflammation (including various forms of arthritis), muscle spasm, and injuries such as sprains and strains.
- Infrared heat may be applied to the body's surface or to deep tissues. Hot packs, infrared heat, paraffin (heated wax) baths, and hydrotherapy (agitated warm water) provide surface heat.
- Heat may be generated in deep tissues by electric currents (diathermy) or high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound). Please consult with a medical professional prior to any treatment with infrared light.
- Treatment goals for therapeutic heating are: increased blood perfusion with subsequent increased delivery of oxygen to the tissues (avoiding the dessication of wound tissues).
- Some of the uses for Infrared light Therapy include:
Arthralgia, Arthritis (various forms), Back pain, Fibromyalgia, Muscle spasm, Myositis, Neuralgia, Sprains, Strains, Tenosynovitis, Whiplash injuries. Hyperthermia or thermal ablation.
- The use of infrared therapy devices has been proposed for a variety of
disorders; including treatment of diabetic neuropathy, other peripheral
neuropathy, skin ulcers and wounds, and similar related conditions,
including conditions such as pain arising form these conditions. A wide
variety of devices are currently available.

New Therapies and Treatment
What is hyperthermia?
Hyperthermia (also called thermal therapy or thermotherapy) is a type of cancer treatment in which body tissue is exposed to high temperatures (up to 113°F).
Research has shown that high temperatures can damage and kill cancer cells, usually with minimal injury to normal tissues
(1) By killing cancer cells and damaging proteins and structures within cells
(2) Hyperthermia may shrink tumors
Hyperthermia is almost always used with other forms of cancer therapy, such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
Hyperthermia may make some cancer cells more sensitive to radiation or harm other cancer cells that radiation cannot damage.
When hyperthermia and radiation therapy are combined, they are often given within an hour of each other.
Hyperthermia can also enhance the effects of certain anticancer drugs.
